Giuk (Hangul: 기욱), formerly known as CyA (Hangul: 키아; RR: Kia), is a South Korean rapper, musician, songwriter and producer under RBW. He is the bassist, rapper and maknae of the alternative rock band ONEWE.
He made his solo debut on April 20, 2023 with the mini album Psycho Xybernetics : TURN OVER.
Career[]
2015-2016: M.A.S 0094 formation and debut[]
Giuk is one of the three founding members, recruiting two additional members to form the five-piece band M.A.S 0094, now known as ONEWE.
Giuk, along with members Harin and Kang Hyun, began to form the band as the three youngest students of their music academy ModernK, when Giuk was in his final year of elementary school in 2012. Giuk then recruited his neighbor Dong Myeong as a vocalist for the band and lastly met and recruited their final member Yong Hoon to be their main vocalist with a cup of coffee at a singer-songwriter competition.[2]
Complete as five members, the band chose the name M.A.S 0094 to mean 'Make A Sound" plus their birth years ranging from Giuk's (2000) through to their eldest Yong Hoon's (1994). Giuk chose the stage name CyA, taken from the water nymph of Greek mythology Cyane (meaning 'dark blue' in ancient Greek).
From May of 2015, the band began busking together on the streets of Hongdae, Seoul.
On August 13, 2015, M.A.S 0094 released their first single "Butterfly, Finding Flower", self-written by Giuk, earning him his first KOMCA credit at the age of fifteen.
He made his official debut with M.A.S 0094 on SBS MTV's The Show on August 2, 2016.
Giuk is featured in the song "Promise" by Donghyun, which was released on December 12, 2016 as part of The Miracle OST.
2017-2019: MAS, The Unit, and re-debut as ONEWE[]
On April 1, 2017, Giuk, with M.A.S 0094, signed an exclusive artist contract with RBW Entertainment. The band's name was then officially shortened to MAS.
In October of 2017, Giuk auditioned alongside MAS for the survival show The Unit. He was eliminated in the seventh episode, placing 59th.
In June of 2018, his band's name was again changed from MAS to ONEWE.
Giuk made his re-debut with ONEWE on May 13, 2019, with the digital single album "1/4".
2023: Solo debut with Psycho Xybernetics : TURN OVER, Rise Waves[]
Psycho Xybernetics : TURN OVER
On March 9, 2023, he announced that he would no longer be going by the stage name CyA and would go by his real name, Giuk, for all official activities, both solo and with ONEWE.[3]
Giuk made his solo debut on April 20, 2023, with the mini album Psycho Xybernetics : TURN OVER. This was preceded by his first solo concert Prologue : TURN OVER on April 8 and 9 and then followed by his encore concert Epilogue : TURN OVER on June 24.
On October 6, it was announced that Giuk would be holding another solo concert Flight1112 : Giuk (ONEWE) on November 12.[4]
Giuk is featured in "A girl's Panorama" from YongYong's first studio album mYmY, which was released on November 9, 2023 as one of two title tracks for the album.
On November 15, Giuk made his solo comeback with his second mini album Rise Waves.
2024: Features[]
Giuk is the featured artist for the digital singles "back to you" by Aden, released on July 30, 2024, and "You don't love me" by DIVINE, released on October 2, 2024.
